How to Create Sales Orders that aren’t Sales (for Giveaway Items)?

We need a method to create Transaction Records that handle product giveaways (i.e. ship free products which are not sales) where Inventory should pull from the existing inventory and the cost amount should post to an expense account. Is it possible for that to be done on a different “Sales Order” form that’s not a real sales order?

We do not want the giveaway items to hit the Costs of Goods Sold or revenue accounts in the GL but instead hit a “Customer Sales Incentive Other” account as an expense.

Creating additional or “mirror SKUs” is not feasible as it would not match up with warehouse levels of the original product.

How are you other customers using NetSuite handling product giveaways not affecting sales

You could just create inventory adjustments, you get to pick what GL account they hit.  Maybe add a custom field or memo to differentiate these from any other adjustments you are doing?

I forgot about doing Inventory Adjustments. Yes this would be perfect for the GL Impact issue, however, our staff who enters orders are in roles and positions that make inventory adjustments and also inventory adjustments do not provide our shipping module “ShipJunction” what items to be fulfilled and shipped. Very close to cracking this dilemma. Thanks though.

Your solution can be found in the screen shot, you should just create the item and change its revenue and COGS accounts
