then it probably is a custom script or workflow… you can check scripted records to see everything that’s on the SO record, or try using a standard form as sometimes scripts are attached to custom forms directly.

SuiteCommerce is pretty complex and expensive to work on compared to other platforms. Using a 3rd party means a big project to set up a backend data connector and ongoing costs to manage that 2 way sync, which is a big pain. Any 3rd party site is going to have delayed inventory and status, while SC will always have real time data for customers. Adding things like reviews or other features will be easier on shopify or WooCommerce, and there are way more developers to choose from. However, you’d then have to have (some) employees learn not just NS but also the e-comm platform and the backend connector.
Either approach can be made to work just fine or be a nightmare. I do these projects all the time, and the first step is always the same. Don’t think about which platform you want to go with, but start with a detailed requirements list. Wireframe each page type, describe any custom functionality, third-party integrations, on-site video or blog features, that sort of thing. Work with the major stakeholders in the company and representative employees from every relevant department to get their feedback. Everything you invest in the requirements document will pay off. Also organize things by importance… Which features are must-have versus nice to have?
Then you can talk to companies that implement these platforms and review the requirements with them and find out exactly how difficult it will be. Generally speaking, simpler sites work pretty well with third-party platforms because SuiteCommerce is expensive. More complex sites with lots of items or complex inventory (e.g. where several items share the same stock) will suffer more from the translation between NetSuite and the e-commerce database.

An item only has a single account for each purpose, if you want to track the warehouse vs sales using item X, you would probably want a different solution. I don’t know of anything built into NS for the purpose you describe. You could probably get there somewhat using fake customers & fulfillments.

You don’t want to use accounts for this… what kind of transaction are you using to consume these office supplies? Are they set up as inventory or non-inventory items? You might try classes or departments to segment things. I guess you could use a sales order for the internal department to ‘purchase’ the supplies, and just have a customer record for each department.

It sounds like you’re asking about Site Builder, not suitebuilder? Site builder is an older e-commerce platform while suitebuilder lets you bundle UI customizations, like custom roles or KPIs. The latter I don’t think it going anywhere.
NetSuite is ending support for all promotions for site builder, probably in 2022. They are not allowing new companies to sign up for site builder as well. Existing sites will probably not be forced off at a certain date, I expect NS will keep chipping away at critical functionality to get people to voluntarily move off the platform. It’s a shame because even though it’s an old platform, it can be made to work fine and is much more reasonably priced than SuiteCommerce.

My understanding is that NetSuite’s solution doesn’t allow for a custom checkout domain for site builder (as it uses that slot for the www secure domain), and has a number of restrictions like not supporting some of the SB extensions. My solution has no such restrictions and includes additional benefits like security and improved performance.

I’ve heard the same feedback from a lot of my clients who still use Site Builder. NetSuite is obviously motivated to get people to migrate to the much more expensive SCA/SCS options, but SCA has a very high price tag and SCS is very restricted in terms of customization. That leaves a lot of companies in an unserved grey area who could keep getting good use out of Site Builder if NetSuite would just continue to leave it alone as they’ve done for 10+ years. I would assume that they will give at least 2 (should be 5) years’ notice when they actually decide to sunset the module, at least to avoid lawsuits.

Hello Mrog,
It can be tough to get a clear answer here, as NetSuite wants you to upgrade to SuiteCommerce. I have developed a CDN based solution that allows you to keep a custom checkout domain for the checkout/my account areas while making the entire site HTTPS. There are a bunch of technical details that have to be done right to avoid insecure content warnings (or even breaking functionality). I’ve done this for a couple dozen site builder sites and it works well, and includes security and performance enhancements due to the CDN. You can read about it more here:

Or feel free to get in touch and we can chat in more detail.
Thanks,
David Norris
