Is it possible to trigger a workflow transition from another workflow?

I have a workflow that is supposed to transition automatically from State 1 to State 2 if Checkbox = T, but the checkbox will always be false when the record is created. A separate scheduled workflow updates the checkbox when necessary. However, the transition does not occur until the record is loaded. Is there a way for the scheduled workflow to trigger the transition from State 1 to State 2 without requiring the record to be loaded manually?
