RE: Master Default BOM mass change

Answered

I have a load of Assembly Items that have more than one BOM attached to them.  In each case one of the BOMs is set to Master Default.
I can easily change which BOM is Master Default by going into each item and manually changing it.  However, I would like to do this via a mass upload change as it will save hours of work.

Does anyone know if / how this can be done?

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

I was not able to use Mass Update but I was able to do this through an import. Here’s what I did:

  1. Created a Bill of Materials saved search with the following:
    1. Criteria: Inactive = False
    2. Results:
      1. Internal ID (i.e., BOM internal ID)
      2. Name (i.e., BOM name)
      3. Assembly Item : Assembly ID
      4. Assembly Item : Assembly
      5. Assembly Item : Default
  2. Exported the saved search to Excel.
  3. Filtered / edited the Excel as needed including changing “Yes” to “No” in the Default column for all lines.
  4. Save as CSV.
    1. I recommend saving two copies – one that has all the records you are going to import and one that has only the first line/record to test that importing one worked before importing all of them.
  5. Create a new import with the following:
    1. Import Type = Items
    2. Record Type = Assembly/BOM Item
    3. Select the file (I recommend first testing with the file that only has one record)
    4. Data Handling = Update
    5. Field mapping
      1. Assembly ID <–> Item : Internal ID
      2. BOM Name <–> Item – Bills of Materials 1 : Bill of Materials
      3. Default <–> Item – Bills of Materials 1 : Master Default
