RE: How can I make the global search bar wider?

We have several customers with long names due to multiple sites for one master customer.  The sales team would like the display to be wider so more characters show up in the search bar.  Is it possible to widen the global search bar to show more characters?

NetSuite does not have a standard way to increase the search box width.

As a workaround, you can create a Custom Record with an inline HTML field that will adjust the width of the search box and the results box. Example below:

This is the best option until NetSuite update this to allow the box to be adjusted by standard

The steps for creating the custom record are as follows:

Step 1 – Create a custom record

Navigate to Customisation > List Records Fields > Record Types > New

Step 2 – Populate details for the custom record

Populate the Name and ID fields. Then untick the Include Name checkbox.

Step 3 – Adding a custom inline HTML field

Using the add field button on the custom record:

RE: How can I make the global search bar wider?

Populate the following details for the Inline HTML field

Default Value Code
The 140ch is the number of characters wide you would like the search box and the results box to be. So if you update these make sure that both are updated.

<style>

#_searchstring {

max-width: 140ch !important;

}

#uif30 {

width: 140ch !important;

}

</style>

Step 4 – Navigate to the record

You can navigate to the record by typing into the global search or from the Custom Record Type record, go to More > View Records.

When you are on this new custom record the search bar should be considerably wider. You can add a link to your user’s dashboards for quick access to this record.

It gives me an error when I try to input that formula.

Your formula has an error in it. It could resolve to the wrong datatype, use an unknown function, or have a syntax error. Please go back, correct the formula, and re-submit.
