I need to add an “other custom field”, an inbound shipment-related field to a custom form.
I can find a way to apply to a form as this is not an item field.

if you meant OTHER RECORD FIELDS… they are automatically applied to the RECORD TYPE that you choose
this is usually the first option you would see if you are configuring OTHER RECORD FIELDS.
You can additionally control the fields that shows up on your forms, through the CUSTOMIZE FORM page
