RE: Auto Generated Numbers Error

the auto generated number we use for our Projects seemingly out of nowhere jumped from 2081 to 801209 we haven’t had any adverse effects so far, and I am a fan of not messing with it, but our owners would like it fixed. does anybody have any idea of how this happened?

Only thought would be if under Set Up Auto-Generated Numbers, Projects had “Allow override” enabled and someone renumbered a project to 801209. Subsequent projects would increment from there.

I had the same issue with a user overriding a customer account number to “1234567”….

I thought this too, but on the Project 801209 I cant find any record under system notes.

I don’t think you’d find it under system notes, as I imagine the record number was overridden before the first save.
AFAIK, a user overriding the record number like that is the only mechanism that could change the auto-numbering sequence like that.

Actually, you can manually set the next number to be used on the ‘Set Up Auto-Generated Numbers’ page,  typically an admin-only ability, but there is a setup permission “Auto-Generated Numbers” that allows a user to access it.
