RE: NetSuite Consulting

Answered

Hello,

I’ve been working as an NetSuite administrator for about two years, during which I implemented and set up our system to meet my company’s specific needs. I’m now interested in transitioning into a consulting role and would love advice on how to get my foot in the door.

As you move from a NetSuite Admin to a Consultant role, you’re shifting from maintaining a single instance to advising multiple clients on best practices and implementations.

Keys to Success:

  1. Expand your business process knowledge beyond technical skills – understand how finance and business work together
  2. Develop advisory skills – learn to ask effective discovery questions and translate client needs into solutions
  3. Build project management capabilities – consultants must manage timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables
  4. Practice effective communication – you’ll need to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  5. Gain exposure to different industries – each has unique requirements for NetSuite configuration
  6. Strengthen your documentation skills – clear documentation is crucial for client handoffs
  7. Develop a consulting mindset – focus on understanding “why” behind requirements rather than just implementing

The transition requires patience as you build confidence in guiding clients through decisions rather than just executing them. Your admin experience provides a solid foundation – now focus on developing the strategic perspective that makes great consultants valuable.

Happy Transitioning 😄
