Linking Projects and Subprojects
HI – I have set up a project and created a 3 sub-projects beneath it.
My fee for all 3 projects sits on the parent code. I also want my revenue recognition on the parent code.
The subcodes will be used as separate jobs and the schedules will be set up on these. Employees will code their time to the subprojects and when each task is complete, they will mark them as complete.
How do I see the hours spent on the sub-codes roll up onto the parent code so i can see total hours for all three projects, and also how do I get my parent code to recognize revenue based on the tasks in the subcodes being marked as complete?
I can’t really help you with the revenue recognition piece, as my current company doesn’t use that, and I’m horribly out-of-date on how all that stuff works now. But with regards to how subprojects are associated with parent projects, the reporting options there are horrible (for saved searches anyway). IME, you can get the top level parent (i.e. customer) but that’s about it. I ended up creating a custom field (sourcing the project list) for what project was the parent project of each one (and just manually populating on project setup), so that I could easily use that information in saved searches.
