Filter on Saved Search with no values available to choose

We have a custom field on a custom record that in this particular instance has over 200 entries in the field.  The field is set up to source from the vendor list.  However, when we create a saved search on this custom record type, the filter in the saved search has no selections available.  The search properly pulls all the values for this field.  Has anyone experienced this behavior before?

EDIT: As a workaround I was able to get the filter to semi-work by joining through the vendor record and grabbing the name.  This is sort of a weird work around but fills the need I have.

If the field is a custom field on a custom record that sources from the Vendor list, you need to create your filter as a join to that custom field. So instead of joining from the Vendor:Custom Record, try Custom Record:Vendor Field.

The search is on the custom record itself; it should not need a join to get the data from the field or filter by the data in the field.
