Workflow to set a field when another field changes, in not triggering

This is difficult to explain. We have a custom table that holds item UPC codes. When an item is deleted from the NS item records, I need the associated UPC record for that item to be deleted or the Available for Reuse field on that custom record, set to true.

I have found that deleting the item record, deletes the item number on the custom UPC table. So I thought I could create a workflow on the custom table that sets the Available for Reuse field to true, when the item field changed to null.

That didn’t work. But, if I then edit the custom table record through the UI without changing anything, the workflow triggered and it set the field null as required. So I think although deleting the item record does delete the item number on the custom record, that does not trigger an edit on that record, so the workflow doesn’t trigger.

I would recommend using a scheduled workflow for this. Create a saved search showing UPC records with no item assigned. Then make a scheduled workflow that sets the field to available for reuse. You can run it every 30 min which should be sufficient timeframe for this hopefully

MGBC I have set that up and it works TY. I was just hoping I could make it trigger immediately on deleting an item.
