purchase order is suddenly created with a higher PO number. for example, earlier the po# was 234 now suddenly is created with 3456. what to check and how to fix this issue? Any help is appreciated.

This is mostly managed under Setup –> Company –> Auto-Generated Numbers (or under the appropriate subsidiary in certain cases and if using OneWorld). You could consider checking the Update Initial Number, on the Purchase Order row, which will enable the next field where you can type the desired next number. This assumes of course that whatever you enter there would not cause duplicates.
