Make-to-Assemble with buffer stock
I have a customer that wants to use a Make-to-Assemble model in NetSuite Lite Manufacturing and Supply Planning. They want to have “sub assemblies” built and ready 7 days before they start assembling the final item.
So if WO 123 has is scheduled to start on 14/06/2023 the components must be in the store on 07/06/2023
I have Supply planning working well enough, but I cannot find a way to program 7 day “buffer”. Any ideas on how I can do this?
You should be able to manage this with a combination of lead times – you will also need to set the lead times in the sub assemblies of any assemblies to match the 7 day lead time
Configure supply planning rules to align with the MTA model. For the sub-assemblies, specify the lead time as a safety stock, so NetSuite will make sure you have enough sub-assemblies in stock 7 days before they are needed for the final assembly.
Safety Stock:
- Set safety stock levels for your sub-assemblies to ensure that you have a buffer in case of unexpected demand fluctuations.
- Monitoring and Adjustments:
- Regularly monitor your inventory levels and work orders in NetSuite. You may need to adjust safety stock levels or replenishment quantities based on actual demand and production performance.
- Report Generation:
- Use NetSuite’s reporting and analytics features to keep track of your manufacturing and supply planning performance. You can generate reports that show sub-assembly and final assembly lead times, inventory levels, and order statuses.
By following these steps, you can implement a Make-to-Assemble model in NetSuite Lite Manufacturing and Supply Planning to ensure that sub-assemblies are built and ready 7 days before the final assembly is scheduled to occur. This allows you to meet your customer’s requirements and maintain efficient production processes.
