How do you add service/other charges to an assembly item’s cost?

Scenario is I am mixing two inventory items to create an assembly item. Client wants to add a Service charge item as part of the assembled item. What kind of non-inventory item should I create for those other charges? I’m abit confused on the differences between Non-inventory/Other Charge/Service etc so I’m not sure which one I should choose.

Another issue is even if I select a non-inventory item, I can’t edit the service charge amount in the Build Assembly page because that only allows me to input the quantity of the components to consume. Those service charges might vary per assembly so editing the purchase price in the Service item won’t be a good option.

While the difference between those three item types is very narrow, you should use a Service. Reason being if you ever graduate to WIP & Routing, some functionality expects Service items. It’s not a huge deal though.

In regards to messing with the value of the item, assuming you don’T want to get into the vastly more complicated WIP & Routing functionality, your best bet will indeed to mess with the quantity of the item. So pick a value and quantity that are easy to work with – say, set the value of the labor as $100 . If on a build you then want it to be $110, set quantity to 1.10

That’s an interesting workaround. Not sure if it’s going to be a sustainable solution though because it requires the client to basically memorize the Purchase Price for these items and calculate accordingly. Still, thanks!
