How do I complete a letter mail merge? I follow all instructions yet the result does not replace NL merge fields

I have followed all Support instructions and am using a word file in the .doc format. I perform the merge and download the file without errors.  None of the merge fields are updated.

Update, all merge fields in your template must exist without any errors.  Any fields that might not exist or are not on the record you are mapping will cause the entire merge to fail.
