RE: Weird behavior for Name / Contact fields, Auto-generate number for Contacts?
We are currently setting up NS (coming from Salesforce) and I bumped into a weird thing regarding the Name / Contact fields.
Can someone explain why the (mandatory) Contact field is there in the first place, how is it being used? Is it THE unique identifier for a Contact?
If so, why is there no option to Auto-generate a number in combination with Contacts.
The problem I am having is that when I enter my first Contact in the system (First name + Last Name), the Contact field is auto-populated with the combined values of these 2 fields.
However, when I want to enter a second Contact with the same name (but another email address), the Contact field is auto-populated with the same value, and the system will return an error when I try to save the new Contact. It’s possible to manually overwrite the value in the Contact field, but that’s a poor-man’s solution.
Any suggestions how to circumvent this?
On a sidenote, in fact there are 3 Name fields, probably a middle name as well. It is possible to hide the middle part somewhere?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, this is standard behavior.
You might look into scripting to solve this issue.

hi, this link seems to be pointing to the previous generation help center? At least I’m ending nowhere. Do you have an alternative (or a copy paste of the article)? Much obliged

Navigate to SuiteAnswers and paste in 20714 in the search box. This will bring you to the above SuiteAnswer article.
