RE: Is there a way to delete a vendor record created through the customer “Other Relationships” field?
On each customer record, there is a field titled “OTHER RELATIONSHIPS“, which allows you to link different records to each other. I was trying to relate an existing vendor record to one of our customers. I edited the customer record, and then clicked on the plus icon next to the Other Relationships field. I then chose “Vendor”, thinking it would allow me to choose which vendor record to relate it to. However, it simply created a new vendor record with customer’s customer ID as the vendor ID. I then tried to delete the vendor record, but it failed due to the record having dependent transactions. I thought that was odd, as I just created it. I then looked at the system information, and found that the vendor record had the full system information history as the customer record. I’m not exactly sure what was done during the process, but it seems like the customer record and vendor record are almost merged. Is there any way to undo this relationship? Thanks for your help on this.
Forgot to mention: when I try to make the vendor record inactive, it gives me a generic error message telling me to contact support.
answer lies in the word “OTHER RELATIONSHIPS” this is not for relating to an existing entity, it means that this customer can be a VENDOR or PARTNER too. In that case you need to have separate entity records for the customer as a vendor or partner record. That is what happening in your case you are creating a vendor record where the same entity is a customer also. Now the same entity got two linked records one as a customer another one as vendor. I hope that make sense.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. That makes sense. However, my question still remains: is there a way to undo the action of creating that vendor record through “OTHER RELATIONSHIPS”?
Did you ever get an answer to how to remove the relationship or clear the incorrect record types from the system without losing the customer record and history?
I have this question too. We have one customer that has a vendor of the same name listed under Other Relationships and both records have the same internal id. I’m not sure how it got that way, but I need to unlink them if possible, it creates headaches because when you update customer contact info, it updates the vendor contact info and they are not the same.
Sorry for the wait. According to Marty’s answer below, it looks like there is no way to remove the relationship once it has been set. See his link for more information.
