RE: Accrue Transaction line field to Transaction Body field

I have modified the Estimate/ Opportunity page to allow for the entry of estimated hours/ costs for each phase of a job by skill code. Each line/ phase presents the line amount (transaction line field). This, amount, in turn needs to add to a total labor cost (Transaction Body field) located in the Job Summary section at the top of the page.

I would like some options on the most efficient way to do this. Clearly adding a formula is not the answer.
A search field, rather than a formula, should be able to handle it, I think. However, this field will be read-only on the UI – can’t use it in reports or anything else.
If you need the field to be useable, a small script will do it.
