Exploring Barcoding in NetSuite
We are starting the process of exploring barcoding capabilities in NetSuite, which I believe will be a part of WMS. I don’t have a specific question but am attempting to connect with others that have rolled out barcoding in NetSuite.
Our hope is to implement a solution that will enable us to receive inventory and fulfill orders using barcodes. We currently have multiple warehouses in multiple states.
I’d love to connect with those that are able to share the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We use WMS and for the most part it is fairly cut and dry.

- Receive POs -> We enter IRs on mobile devices, scan a barcode on a printed PO that we receive in. We label our products after receipt, so no real good method to “scan” product in, though we have a few vendors that can pre-label our products based on our requirements.

- Bin Putaway -> Once labeled product is moved from staging bin to storage/picking bins. Scan Origin Bin Barcode, Scan product and lot numbers and enter quantities, move product and scan destination barcode, scan item and bins and enter quantity.

- Wave / Order Picking -> Single order picking. We provide Pick tickets, but everything can be done on the mobile device.

- Scan/Select Order & Pick Task

- Go to expected Bin. Scan Bin, Item and Lot number, enter Qty.

- Scan Next Pick Task, repeat for all items and then Stage Order

- Scan Staging Bin, All items staged in staging bin for pack/ship (IF created automatically).

- Wave / Order Picking -> Single order picking. We provide Pick tickets, but everything can be done on the mobile device.

- Bin Transfers -> Similar to Bin putaway.

- Cycle Counts -> Set up Counts on Desktop. Start Count. (Limit to a few items each cycle count. All bins need to be counted for all lot numbers)

- Select Cycle count and select first bin to count. We do a blind count first. Counters only know the bins they need to count, not the quantity or lot numbers.

- Scan Bin, Scan Item, Enter total quantity for all lots at that bin. Enter each bin and quantity for each lot.

- Next Bin Count, same as first.

- Next Item and all bins to complete the count.

- Desktop user confirms the count, if there are high variances, reject and recount with what is expected and verify. All items and all bins rejected need to be re-entered. Start from 1-4.

- Cycle Counts -> Set up Counts on Desktop. Start Count. (Limit to a few items each cycle count. All bins need to be counted for all lot numbers)

- Bin and Item search. You can search a bin or an item and the mobile device will tell you all lot numbers and quantities and where they are located.
There are quirks, but this is our standard day to day usage we’ve had for 3 years and it works well enough that it has saved a lot of clerk time entering lot numbers/creating IF records. Scanning is faster than handwriting as well for the most part.
